The 19th Annual International Conference on Digital Government Research has recently been held in Delft, The Netherlands. This year’s theme - “Governance in the data age” - consisted of various keynotes, track and poster presentations and project showcases highlighting best practice in data science applied within and to areas in governance.
At this year’s conference, PhD researchers Malkiat Thiarai and Sarunkorn Chotvijit, supervised by Professor Stephen Jarvis, won the 'Best Management Paper Award' among almost 150 accepted papers. The research reported on a collaboration between the University of Warwick and Birmingham City Council, titled ‘Big Data Analytics in Social Care Provision: Spatial and Temporal Evidence from Birmingham’ and was presented at the track on 'Open and Big Data Analytics in Government: Pathway from Insight to Public Value'. The research demonstrates the potential of using data analytics tools and visualisation techniques to support the decision-making process, resources management and services improvement in the local government’s social care services.
